Cedar Point Historical Facts & Developments


Cedar point has seen a lot of ups and downs in its complex history which makes the fabulous amusement park one of the most popular destinations. It has covered around 364 acres which is located in Sandusky, Ohio, United States.

In 1870, the park was opened for the public which was the second amusement park after Lake Compounce and is executed by the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. Prior to the development of the area, the Cedar point peninsula was completely covered with local cedar plants and crystal clear.

During the American Civil War in 1860, the Cedar Point acts as the point to guard access to the Confederate prisoner of war camp on nearby Johnson’s Island. After the war, the Cedar Point again started working as the picnic spot. Louis Zistel founded the park by constructing a beer garden and a small dance floor along with bathhouses and a children’s playground.

The Cedar Point was adversely affected by the Great Depression as the attendance of the visitors dropped and many of the attractions were degraded. But it managed to survive due to its smaller attractions and superb beaches. During 1970s and 1980s, the park started amusing the visitors with the introduction of many innovative items such as Sealand Aquarium, Corkscrew roller coaster etc.

During the history of over hundred years, Cedar Point relies on the continual advancement and development making it very colorful and thrilling for many generations to come.
